When it comes to running a business the most important thing is going to be that your employees are on board. Without engaged employees the productivity is going to be low and so will the effort that they put in too.

This means that it is important to try your best to improve employee engagement as much as you can. But this isn’t always the easiest thing to do. So, with this in mind, we have put together the best ways that you can try to improve employee engagement in your business.

Leading by example

One of the simplest ways to encourage your staff to work their best for you is to lead by example. If they see you walking the walk and talking the talk, then there is a good chance that they are going to follow suit. Make sure that you follow your own rules and then you should have a team that does this too!

Always be transparent

No-one likes to think that they have secrets being kept from them, let alone when those secrets could have an impact on their jobs. It is a good idea to try and be as honest, open and transparent with your employees as you can be. Of course, at times you are not going to have all the info that they need, but if you do have it, then share it. They will feel valued and they will also trust in you too.

Say thank you

Feeling valued is important to many people, particularly when they are going to be making an effort for your business. It doesn’t take much to say thank you, so make sure that this is on your list as much as possible. You will soon see that your staff feel even more inclined to try their best for you.

Offer flexibility

In these modern times, many of us appreciate the work-life balance. However, it isn’t always the easiest thing to achieve.  You can give your staff a helping hand by doing your best to offer flexible working. Of course, this needs to always fit in with your business needs, but if it something that you can allow for, then your employees are going to really appreciate it.

Hire for behaviours, not just experience

Of course, you need to make sure that you hire people who are experienced and know what they are doing, but this should never outweigh behaviours. Knowledge can be taught through training and development, however, behaviours and soft skills are much harder to teach and are just as valuable.


As you can see, improving employee engagement doesn’t have to be the hardest thing in the world. Sometimes you just need to think about the different ways that you can approach it and in no time at all you will have staff that are 100% on board with your business and want to help to ensure that you reach your vision.
